For over four decades, Domingos Alves de Sousa has walked the steep terraces of the Douro. A pioneer of still red wines from the region at a time when almost everyone thought only of Port, he is today one of the most respected — and most stubbornly artisanal — voices in Portuguese wine.
At the helm of Quinta da Gaivosa and a family of historic estates, he has crafted some of the Douro's most distinctive reds — wines of place, of patience, and of an elegance only time can teach.
